About this deal

Do this if you know the battery is 100% and, for some reason it’s not being reported as such. This can happen under a few scenarios:

Helps to calculate remaining time of battery (based on current rate of discharge … hmmm the current current). Basically this is the amount (in percentage) that you want to not be part of the normal 100% of usable energy in your battery.

zero) disables the filter and gives an instantaneous (real-time) readout. However, the displayed “Time remaining” value may fluctuate heavily. Selecting the longest time, 12 minutes, will ensure that only long-term load fluctuations are included in the “Time remaining” calculations. Battery SOC on reset The Victron SmartShunt 500A is an all in one battery monitor, only without a display. Your phone acts as the display. The SmartShunt connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app on your phone (or tablet) and you can conveniently read out all monitored battery parameters, like state of charge, time to go, historical information and much more. Set the Peukert exponent according the battery specification sheet. If the Peukert exponent is unknown, set it at 1.25 for lead-acid batteries and set it at 1.05 for lithium batteries. A value of 1.00 disables the Peukert compensation. The Peukert value for lead- acid batteries can be calculated. Charge efficiency factor (%)

May I also ask for some advice on installing a Victron battery monitor? At present I have a lot of sep cables going to the 2x new lithium 100ah plus solar ,mains charger, inverter, temp sensors etc. Room is tight for busbars but I can just about fabricate a mounting for the BVM 712 and a sep neg busbar. My understanding is that all negative loads inc solar and inverter then go to the negative busbar ( ? the temp sensors?) then new cable connects neg busbar to load on BVM and then BVM connected to cable from battery negative ( cross wired). Is that correct? The Codman Hakim Programmable Valve (CHPV), also known as the programmable Medos shunt, is a double spring ball valve, where the inlet valve controls the total pressure [ 13]. This specific section consists of a synthetic ruby ball depressed in the valve seat by a 316L flat stainless-steel spring. Opening pressure of the valve is adjusted by raising the spring on a spiral polyethersulfone staircase using the magnetic field from an external handheld apparatus [ 14]. The CHPV has a range of 30 to 200 mm H 2O, with incremental steps of 10 mm H 2O. To confirm the valve setting, plain skull radiography may be needed after shunt pressure adjustment. The Codman Hakim valve can withstand up to a 3 Tesla magnetic field, although the valve must be immediately readjusted after exposure to such a field to avoid complications such as a changed shunt setting from the magnetic interference or permanent disability of the valve [ 13]. In one documented study, the Medos valve behaved very well with one-third of the valves remaining fixed after being exposed to an external magnetic field of 1.5T from an MRI [ 15]. Despite this, the study conducted still found causes of concern as in 11 of 15 occasions, when valves were set to a starting value of 200 mm H 2O, the magnetic field induced by the MRI caused the flat spring of the valve to move across the top of the cam and fall to a level below 30 mm H 2O. A drastic reduction in the pressure setting from 200 mm H 2O to 30 mm H 2O could lead to siphoning of CSF and deleterious effects on the patient, such as subdural hematomas. One of the five Medos valves tested was no longer programmable after four test runs in the MRI. Attempts to reprogram the valve were conducted after 12 hours and 30 days, both of which failed to resolve the issue. The latest two devices are battery-powered (coin cell style) and the battery lasts 3-6 months, working 24/7. The SmartShunt is a great option where space is limited or where a less cluttered installation is preferred and provides a lower cost alternative to the Victron BMV-712 Smart for those who like the bluetooth connectivity but don't want or need a permanent display.

Let's protect our beautiful planet.

The SmartShunt is a good alternative for a BMV battery monitor, especially for systems where battery monitoring is needed but less wiring and clutter is wanted. The SmartShunt is equipped with Bluetooth, a VE.Direct port and a connection that can be used for: monitoring a second battery, midpoint monitoring or a temperature sensor. The Victron manual states: The “charged voltage” parameter should be set to 0.2V or 0.3V below the float voltage of the charger. A fully charged battery will be indicated by a value of 100.0%. A fully discharged battery will be indicated by a value of 0.0%. The battery is considered as “fully charged” once the charge current has dropped to less than the set “Tail current” parameter. The “Tail current” parameter is expressed as a percentage of the battery capacity.
