About this deal

And the stakes are about to get higher and higher after the body of a young woman is found near the Riverwalk by a woman out for a run. To say Kiersten White's upcoming horror novel Hide is at the top of my anticipated TBR list is an understatement. i thought i was getting a mindless splatter-romp through an amusement park like FantasticLand, where—if there was any attempt at a social message it was buried beneath a heap of body parts. Much of Unsworth’s strength in this book is how slowly the creepy and evil aspects of human nature begin to become apparent—and this is even long after the first chapter, when we witness Simon observing the neighboring woman (virtually naked) do her chores in a heat wave from the security of his hide: I do not know her name. Mais pro fim, comecei até a me importar com os personagens, que de fato são a parte mais fraca da história.

White skillfully balances tense group dynamics with the individual experiences of solo players, even as she interweaves snippets of the park’s dark history and the people behind its current state.

Equal parts hell-ride thriller and American fable, Kiersten White’s Hide runs you through a sinister child’s game set in a nightmare amusement park, and it does so with gleeful, fiendish delight. The social web enmeshing these characters is as dense and interwoven as the 'hide' from within which Simon crouches as he spies on the world around him. She has brought me often, and especially on windy days when I am vouchsafed incidental revelations, to the threshold of intense pleasure, and on occasion I have been enabled, kneeling in my little corner here, with the complicity of the laburnum… to cross the threshold.

stars - I'm bummed because I think if I could have changed a couple of things around in this, it could have been a 5 star. When Josh, a good-looking naif, becomes a gardener at Audrey's home, the two women of the household, Audrey and her distant relative and housekeeper, Marion, find Josh's strength and seeming innocence a potent spell, and his response escalates unacknowledged tensions between them.

Escape room troupe located at the terrifying amusement park meets with Hungry Games- Maze Runner vibes : an action packed Hide and Seek game with adrenaline blast and smartly executed mystery. The pacing was a bit slow in the middle but definitely picked up as the horror ramped up in the second half. Agora, alguns dias após a leitura, ainda me pego reimaginando esse parque, alguns acontecimentos, e gostando mais a cada dia que passa.

I think it's definitely worth picking up for those wanting a more mystery based version of horror and it kept me turning the pages. If I had to compare this to another book I would say it reminded me a bit of Reprieve by James Han Mattson due to the social commentary and the fact that while both are marketed as horror novels they aren't actually overtly frightening. So much so that I would have actually liked to see more of that side of things—how in the world did the Asterion families come up with this plan? The amount of subtle possibilities leaves nothing but wide open space as to who is committing these murders and why.If the item is part of a series, tap the series, choose an individual book, then tap the More button . The setting is deeply creepy, fully realized, and genuinely frightening at multiple points (I can’t be the only person who hates clowns). Go into this book with little background because the book is short and you don't want to ruin the narrative. Sometimes McCormick sounded like a school teacher, using a folksy, soft characterisation, lilting and almost melodic. I also enjoyed the social commentary, from homophobia, racism, classism, and sexism to generational animosity (boomers using and abusing younger generations for their own benefit and then blaming and deriding them for struggling).Violent crime isn’t unusual in Chicago, but the first case Harri Foster takes on in her new unit, after eight weeks’ compassionate leave, is extreme.
