About this deal

You can alter the size of the grain that the grinder produces by turning the dial on the grinder to one of thirteen settings. As a guide, the finer grain size, the stronger and more bitter the coffee will taste – so aim for a very fine grain for an espresso, but a more coarse one for longer drinks.

De’Longhi (the company) was founded in 1902, in Italy, by the family of the same name. They started off making industrial parts in their workshop before moving on to make heaters and air conditioners. The grinder in question here is a burr conical grinder – these are the best grinders, much better than the metal blade ones which ‘chop’ the beans. A burr grinder will crush the beans, meaning you get a more even grind. It is also adjustable so you can select a different grind size for different drinks and for different types of bean. This can be fun to experiment with. The Eletta ECAM44.660.B has some excellent personalisation features. You can adjust the quantity of milk, water and coffee to make your ideal drink. The higher the bar pressure, the faster the water is pushed through coffee grounds, leaving a richer espresso. All you need to do is pay the Take 3 amount shown on your statement, by the due date and you'll pay no

Key Features Of The Eletta ECAM44.660.B and ECAM45.760.W

The Eletta ECAM 44.660.B features an intuitive sensor touch control panel so you can simply make a variety of hot beverages and you can prepare two cups of coffee with a single brewing cycle. Personalising your coffee has never been easier; choose from short, medium or long, try a strong or extra mild aroma, enjoy it piping hot, at medium or low temperature. There are broadly two types of milk frother though: manual and automatic. Manual frothers are often found on cheaper machines. They can froth milk effectively, although it might take some practice to get the perfect cappuccino. The type of coffee you can use, some machines will allow both grounds and beans - perfect if you need decaffeinated coffee. Cleaning is easier than ever before with the De’Longhi Eletta’s built-in cleaning programs. From the console, you can run decalcification and rinsing programs to remove mineral buildup from water and calcium buildup from milk. This will ensure that everything runs smoothly for years to come. You can also remove the brewing apparatus for deep cleaning purposes, but you shouldn’t have to do this too often.

Yes this is what is referred to as super-automatic machine. What this means to you and me, is that it will handle everything from the grinding of the beans, making the espresso through to frothing the milk.

Verdict

Regularly clean your bean-to-cup coffee machine to make sure it's always in good working condition. Most of the machines on this list have various indicators for when the descaling programme should be run or drip tray emptied - but don't rely on indicators for everything. Set a reminder for cleaning the brewing unit, running the descaling programme and other important maintenance tasks. The ECAM 44.660.B boasts 15 bar pressure to maximize flavour extraction from your coffee beans. Offering 2-in-1 versatility, you can use ground coffee or grind beans in the integrated burr grinder.

The drip tray is easy to empty. It also has an indicator that pops up if the water level gets too high, so you’ll always know when the tray needs to be emptied. As we mentioned at the start of this review, the Delonghi Eletta ECAM44.660.B certainly isn’t a cheap bean-to-cup coffee machine (although it’s far from the priciest either). Despite this, we think it provides outstanding value for money if you enjoy cappuccino or latte. The automatic milk frother makes producing high-quality cappuccino far easier than manual frothers, and the customisation options are extensive. This also serves as an ECAM44.620.S review too – the difference is this Eletta Plus model doesn’t include the milk carafe so won’t make the lattes and cappuccinos out of the box.The coffee is brewed using a 15-bar pump. The optimum amount o f pressure that you need to brew coffee is around 9-bars, so it’s reassuring to have that extra little bit. You can set it for a ‘pre infusion’ where the water is introduced to the coffee and then the pressure is slowly built up – giving more time for infusion. The idea behind this is that you extract more flavour out of the coffee and into your drink. But if the question is “is a bean-to-cup coffee machine the best option for me?” then the answer is more complicated. As we mentioned earlier, bean-to-cup machines produce the freshest coffee. They are more versatile, as you can use beans or ground coffee from any brand, and they offer extensive customisation. But that doesn’t mean they are right for everyone in the UK. If you want to brew large amounts of coffee for guests, for example, a simple filter machine might work best. And if you want a variety of coffees and hot chocolates available almost-instantly, then a pod machine might be a good option. For most coffee enthusiasts, however, a bean-to-cup machine is an excellent choice. But Doesn’t Ground Coffee Remain Fresh if it’s Refrigerated? The soft touch control panel features 2 text lines display and 16 languages for using the machine in a clear and simple way. Other great features include auto rinse and descale functions for easy cleaning. Staying on the milk theme a little longer, it’s worth noting that the milk container (or as Delonghi call it, milk carafe) is a removable chamber that is designed to be simple to move to the fridge for storage. The Barista Express has a professional appearance and a variety of features, including high-pressure steam for milk texturing.
