About this deal

There have been video games based on Blokus. Irem was the first to develop such a kind of video game, in the form of what is known as Blokus Club with Bumpy Trot. Released in Japan in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, and one year later for the PlayStation Portable, the game features characters from Steambot Chronicles ( Bumpy Trot in Japan) playing the Classic, Travel, and Duo versions of the game. The game received an international release in 2008, under the name Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship. Identifying passages through your opponents’ lines allows you to reach new regions thanks to the gaps in other players’ pieces. You may already know Blokus, an abstract strategy board game where you compete against other players to score the most points after placing as many Tetris-shaped pieces on the board as possible.

The green player could not place 1 three-square piece, 3 four-square pieces, and 1 five-square piece. Score: -20 points Saltzman, Marc (2007-12-14). "Blokus World Tour Review". Gamezebo.com. Archived from the original on 2008-01-29 . Retrieved 2007-12-22. There is a solitaire variation where one player tries to get rid of all the pieces in a single sitting. This one is a controversial, love-it-or-hate-it strategy. I’ve seen many players, myself included some time ago, using this strategy over and over, to prevent one’s opponents from moving through your corner, disincentivizing them from reaching your space and leaving you room to deploy your pieces. It is not easy to determine how bad a leak might be for you, but here are some basics you could take into account:Glenn, Joshua; Larsen, Elizabeth Foy (14 October 2014). UNBORED Games: Serious Fun for Everyone. Bloomsbury Publishing. p.28. ISBN 978-1-63286-046-0 . Retrieved 15 April 2015. Try to run straight for the center, and then extend tendrils toward any zones that are looking particularly contested. You can achieve this by starting with a VWZ opening (explained earlier), and then inserting the X, which may be harder to place later on. What’s a “1” piece? you may ask. When discussing Blokus’s strategy, it is standard to set the name of each piece in advance to avoid confusion later on. The following is the standard naming system for Blokus pieces. However, leaks cannot always be avoided. In those cases, you should aim at creating two smaller leaks forcing your opponents to play their smaller pieces rather than their larger ones.

Consider these gaps as doors to expand the game to your advantage, but make sure to be the first to exploit these opportunities before the remaining opponents do.Try to keep as many corners available as you can by deploying your pieces in all directions. Players who choose to build their board through a single path will surely face difficulties as other players take advantage of their leaks, and will find no more room to expand. In the standard/original four-player version, each player's first piece must touch one of the board's four corners, as shown. This means you may leave some empty areas as long as you know your opponents don’t have the pieces needed to take advantage of these leaks. Some players choose to build structures similar to the Barasona opening to force others to drop their 1 piece. However, this is probably going to cost them in the long run as they will not be able to reach new areas of the board and will miss valuable opportunities to expand. 8. Look at gameplay with a “corners out” mindset
