Ghost Boy is written as a journey, which the reader takes along with the writer. The journey gives a vivid picture of what one individual with physical limitations goes through and how they meet each new experience along the way. This book is written in the voice of the author/main character, Martin pistorius. As a ghost, Jerome meets the ghost of Emmett Till, who shows him hundreds of other 'ghost boys' who have been killed like them. Officer Moore's daughter, Sarah, also features as a significant character in the text, as well as Jerome's friend Carlos (who gave him the toy gun) and Jerome's younger sister Kim. She is infuriated with her father for what he has done, but she still loves him. Jerome's story as with many of the other stories about the "ghost boys" she researched empowers her to work on a project to advocate for social justice and to keep the memory of the lives taken by the hands of racism alive. In the process, Jerome reminds her to forgive her father, which she does. Pistorius met his wife Joanna, a UK resident, in 2008 through his sister Kim, who had moved to the United Kingdom for her job. [ citation needed] He later moved to the United Kingdom, and they were married in 2009. [10] He described the terrifying experience of being aware but paralysed in a short video recording in 2018, when the couple was about to have a child. By that time, while still using a wheelchair, he was racing in it. [5] Their son, Sebastian Albert Pistorius, was born a few months later on 6 December. It’s no wonder my greater grandpa may have been concerned.On one hand, I am really disappointed with how things are handled in the book but on the other hand, I feel it just portrays the reality how we feel hopeless even if we all know the wrong has been done and there's more coming up. Whatever the adversity is, you’ve got to know that there’s a bigger God whom you have to have faith in Him, and show him gratitude for what he has given to you. As the Bible says:” There are three things that will endure—faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.”

The chapters switch between Jerome's real life (Alive), in which he recounts his life and the actual events leading up to the shooting and his death, to his afterlife (Dead), in which, as a ghost, he is privy to seeing things he never would have seen when he was alive. Jerome goes to his home and observes what life is now like for his - family, mother, father, younger sister Kim, and grandmother. He also finds himself in the bedroom of Sarah Moore, also 12, and the middle class daughter of the police officer who shot him. Jerome is frequently accompanied by the ghost of Emmett Till, a name Jerome recognizes from conversations at home, but doesn't really know the details of Emmett's death in 1955.Esta obra cuenta en total con 252 páginas, así que es relativamente breve, pero tengo que reconocer que la primera mitad se me hizo eterna. Cada página se me hacía más cuesta arriba que la anterior y hasta me planteaba abandonar la lectura. No se veía un orden cronológico claro en lo que se contaba, habían varias divagaciones sobre las fantasías de Martin y se mostraba una recuperación que no estaba bien explicada. Esto último fue lo peor, pues Martin pasó de no poder moverse a realizar acciones que eran imposibles sin un buen dominio del cuerpo. También se dice que no sabía leer y que, sin embargo, en poco tiempo, era capaz de usar con maestría programas informáticos. Yo no digo que no pudiera hacer estas cosas, pero era como si hubieran lagunas temporales en lo que se narraba. Estoy segura de que Martin hizo muchísima rehabilitación, pero no se ahonda en eso, así que resulta chocante que en aparentemente poco tiempo se diga que no es capaz de comer solo pero que sí que se le da muy bien hacer fotocopias o archivar. A mí que alguien me explique cómo haces fotocopias o archivas sin poder mover los brazos. Y ya aclaro que no es que volviera totalmente a la normalidad, Martin simplemente logró conseguir comunicarse y realizar pequeños gestos, pero continuó en una silla de ruedas y sin poder hablar. La cuestión es que, incluso así, es innegable que logró superarse a sí mismo y dar una lección de lo que es la fuerza de voluntad.
