About this deal

Copra is a powder so it is hard to get horses to eat large quantities of it. The copra can be increased by pelleting it. The powder can be added to a diet or mixed with sweet food like beet pulp mash.

However, not all copra meal is the same. Copra meal is made from the white meat of coconuts, and does not contain any husk or shell. It is produced in many different countries including Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and The Philippines. The processing methods and quality of the copra meal produced can vary considerably. For instance, poor-quality Asian copra meal is mostly chemically extracted, direct (smoke) dried and can contain high levels of aflatoxins. Hence it's imperative that horse owners ensure they only buy premium quality copra meal from a reputable source.

Coolstance Copra Feeding Guide

It has a lovely oil content which interestingly has virtually no omega 3 or 6, so it won’t unbalance your omega ratios. It is also predominantly medium chain fatty acids which are unique and have some advantages over long chain fatty acids for digestion and metabolism. Protein – CoolStance® contains the gluconeogenic amino acids asparagine, glutamine, arginine, alanine, valine and serine, which can be used to produce glucose for energy.

CoolStance® has a unique aroma and taste, which most horses like. A small number of horses can find the product unusual and can be slow to take to it. Start with small amounts and build up slowly. Persist, as the results are worth the effort. Do you feed CoolStance® wet or dry? Protein - CoolStance® contains the gluconeogenic amino acids asparagine, glutamine, arginine, alanine, valine and serine, which can be used to produce glucose for energy. Please ensure that you obtain and retain a proof of posting when you return your goods. This is to protect you in the event that your goods are lost in transit.Horse owners who add copra meal or coconut oil to their horse’s diets are generally doing so to increase fat consumption, thereby boosting caloric density of the ration. Copra helps horse owners add condition to their horses, and it helps develop a shiny coat. With a fat content of around 8%, the risk of rancidity would be high except the type of fat found in copra (short- and medium-chain saturated fatty acids) is less susceptible than polyunsaturated fats. However, it is not recommended to feed copra after prolonged storage because of rancidity issues. If the product is off-putting in any way, horses will not eat it as their sensitivity to rancid fat is very high and refusal is almost certain. It starts with the enlargement of the pituitary gland at the base of the brain – either through a benign tumour or hypertrophy through over activity which then starts a cascade of hormonal events throughout the body. The pituitary gland is a master controlling gland that sends out hormones to other glands in the body to keep metabolic and endocrine systems working properly. Most of the clinical signs of this condition are related to excess hormone from the pituitary gland affecting the adrenal glands near the kidney. CoolStance Copra is not a balanced feed, so we recommend feeding a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement or balancer alongside CoolStance Copra, such as VitaStance Mineral Mix or VitaStance B1 Cool Mix. The oil industry has many by-products that are used in animal feeds. They are often useful additions to a healthy diet. Coconut oil is made from the white flesh of the coconut, not the husk or the hull. Copra is a byproduct. Copra can often turn brownish due to processing and is not as bright as store-bought coconut. CoolStance® does not contain any husk or shell. It is made from the white meat of the coconut. High fibre (20%) comes from the flesh of the coconut.
