About this deal

A large humidifier removes 40 to 55 pints of moisture at 65°F, or 70 to 90 pints at 80°F (about 1,200 to 1,500-plus square feet). A frost sensor will detect the formation of ice on the condenser coils. The dehumidifier will then shut off the compressor to give the ice a chance to melt. If it continues to run with frost on the coils, this can damage the parts and make the appliance work much harder to absorb any moisture. One benefit of them is that they have smart Dehumidification Technology. The Smart technology automatically controls the room humidity in a comfortable range of 45 - 55%, preventing growth of bacteria. A second benefit of Midea Dehumidifiers is that they have a low noise design. They have noise as low as 39dB, and maximise the comfort by optimising the refrigeration and air duct systems. This relates to how many speeds the fan has on the dehumidifier. The more speeds there are, the better as it gives you greater control and means excess energy isn’t wasted.

All dehumidifiers have filters to keep dust off the heat exchangers. The Frigidaire has the sturdiest of those tested. In other cases it felt like the filters or clips that held them in place would break sooner or later. For effective cooling and humidity removal, the heat exchanger needs to be clean. If it gets dusty it won’t cool the air effectively to reduce the humidity. Dehumidifiers have filters to trap dirt before it hits the cooling coils. Smart Dehumidification Technology- automatically control room humidity in a comfortable range (45%-55% according to room temperature) which inhibits bacteria growth. However, it’s worth looking out for newer and more energy-efficient designs. For example, Meaco’s MeacoDry Arete One 20L costs around 6p per hour to run, based on an electricity rate of 28.3p per kWh, while some models will cost significantly more at the same rate. Use your dehumidifier daily for a couple of hours and the difference soon mounts up.

Medium-sized models, on the other hand, have been reduced from 50 pints to 30 pints capacities. Whereas small dehumidifiers have moved from 30 pints to roughly 20 pints. We narrowed the list down to several models based on features, price, efficiency and ease of use. How to choose the best dehumidifier Hands-on testing begins in our Lab under controlled humidity and temperature conditions. The key performance-based test measures how much water each dehumidifier collects in a 48-hour time period. Our engineers also use a decibel meter to assess how loud each machine is when running at its highest fan speed. Usability is another important part of our evaluation; it happens in the Lab, as well as in the homes of consumer testers, allowing us to test the dehumidifiers under real-world conditions. Any dehumidifier with a score above 1.8 qualifies for an Energy Star rating. All the dehumidifiers we tested are Energy Star products. There are hooks for wrapping up the power cord when the machine sits right next to an outlet or when you want to store it away, and the filter is easily accessible for removal and cleaning. While the device does come on casters for easy rolling, it also has a heavy-duty top handle for carrying down stairs.

Pumps: Attached to the hose, a pump can send water up to a sink or window. Many can move water up to 15 feet. Key specs – Dehumidifier type: Compressor; Tank size: 2.5l; Extraction rate: 10 litres per day; Dimensions: 47.2 x 23.7 x 31.9cm (HWD); Warranty: 5 years parts and labour Despite the low price point, the Hisense is energy efficient at reducing humidity. It features a convenient auto mode, which adjusts the fan level as needed to keep humidity at a comfortable 50%. This saves energy as it keeps the fan speed low once the target humidity is reached. Running costs vary widely depending on the amount of humidity your dehumidifier is dealing with. In our tests, we challenged the units with an extremely high humidity environment and ran them at their maximum fan settings. This should give a top-end estimate for energy use. Type:If humidity is a problem throughout the entire house, an integrated whole-home system may be the way to go. If your moisture issues are seasonal or confined to only some rooms of the house, a portable residential unit is your best bet. Smaller dehumidifiers tend to cost less and can be easier to move, but they can be less efficient when running at a constant rate. It's best to err on the side of caution by buying a larger unit than a smaller one and having the unit run less frequently.
