About this deal

Salaam, With Love is a YA novel about Dua, a Pakistani-American teenager who spends Ramadan at her uncle's place and unexpectedly learns important lessons on family, faith and love. This was such a heart-warming book with a great Muslim representation (one of the best I have ever read tbh) 💗 Masha Allah. My heart is so full. I am really happy that books with Muslim characters like this one are being published, especially in the YA corner of the book community. 4.5/5 💫 This book is a reminder that Allah, The Most Glorified, The Most High, has made Islam easy. Yet as humans we have the tendency to make it hard upon ourselves. The Almighty brings us to points in our lives, whether through journies or hardships, so we can return to Him voluntarily. He does not compel us to return because compulsion is not befitting of Him, nor does He impose Himself upon us. Rather, Allah creates the conditions that make us realize that He is The Peace that we have been seeking. The Muslim rep was amazing! I love the emphasis on Dua growing in her faith and wanting to be closer to Allah. I also love the music element because music is definitely apart of my own spiritual intimacy with Allah so it was refreshing to see other Muslims with the same experience. I also loveddd the combo of family and Ramadan in NYC. It was very atmospheric and reminded me of how much I miss this past Ramadan. Here’s where the author lost me: Salaam, with Love is about self-love, loving other people, and loving God. My main character, Dua, has a lot of insecurities around feeling like she’s not a “good enough” Muslim. No one really behaves in a way that gives her that impression, but she views life and others through that lens. Throughout the course of the novel, she learns more about Islam and its place in her life, and through her faith she also connects with her family and gains the courage to pursue her own dreams. She’s a talented musician, but an average girl – and she’s supposed to be. Dua could be your neighbor, classmate, or friend. Where did the inspiration for Salaam, with Love come from? Beg beautifully crafts a comforting tale filled with fun characters and excellent Muslim representation.”—Aamna Qureshi, author of The Lady or the Lion

What’s...” My voice trailed off as I walked into the kitchen and saw the looks on my parents’ faces. “What happened?” My heart hammered in my chest. Was this about my music again? Dua, come into the kitchen. Your father and I have something to tell you,” she said, the Urdu words flowing like poetry from her lips. “And please stop jumping around like an electrocuted penguin,” she added, closing the door behind her.the fact that they would listen to music during Ramadan. And while I know every Muslim practices differently, it felt strange to have it brought up so many times, especially because music isn't really allowed in Islam (and while I still struggle with that aspect of my faith I do tend to try and avoid it especially during Ramadan). That's the reason behind my rating i give it 4,8 🌟 but other than that! It's Amazing! Please read it 😂 this book was so cutie. at first, I wasn't really getting into it, but once Haya and Hassan were introduced (like in the second chapter; I feel like I'm being dramatic now) I was hooked. I felt all the good feelings reading this. the vibes were soft and warm. and this book really inspired me to focus more on my faith and prayers; I felt like I was on this spiritual journey with Dua.

Salaam, with Love parts the curtains and shows a view that to some readers will be entirely new but to others will be a glimpse of home.”—Nafiza Azad, author of The Candle and the Flame The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also explained the reward earned by the one who says salam, as was reported by al-Nasai in ‘Amal al-yawm wal-laylah (368) and al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad (586) and by Ibn Hibban (493). They reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) whilst he was sitting with some others, and said Salam ‘alaykum (peace be upon you). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, [He will have] ten hasanat (rewards). Another man passed by and said Salam ‘alaykum wa rahmat-Allah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, [He will have] twenty hasanat. Another man passed by and said Salam ‘alaykum wa rahmat-Allahi wa barakatuhu (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, [He will have] thirty hasanat. Importance of returning salam I would not typically read a book with a religious theme but I enjoyed learning about this culture in the form of a sweet YA book. I enjoyed the friendships Dua made and watching her form a closer bond with her family. Some parts did read slow for me but overall I thought it was lovely. I enjoyed the “halal” romance she had with Hassan and loved the ending. I want to say it has the right Muslim representation but not fully 🤔 Mahrams left alone on a few sessions of hafadhan isn’t it. When it comes to music, views of legal scholars vary from strictly forbidden to generally forbidden but with different restrictions, etc. The author chose Music as one of the important essence in the story. Music has been an important medium for my mental health, so, the passion is relatable.Very sweet story, and I raced to finish it, because I really wanted to know how it turned out. Highly recommend it. Right, I reached out to congratulate her, and then we only talked for a few minutes because she was studying for the LSATs.” I wasn’t exaggerating either. We’d talked for two minutes, and in that time all I’d gotten in was Hi, I’m so happy for you, and bye. Not that we would have had a lot to say to each other anyway.
