The Fujifilm X-E2 is an amazingly well-built X-series camera, with absolutely no flex or movement in its chassis thanks to the die-cast magnesium alloy top and base plates and machined control dials. At the same time, it's actually much lighter than a first glance might suggest, weighing in at 350g body only with the battery and memory card fitted, a full 100g lighter than the X-Pro1. Measuring 129 (W) mm x 74.9(H) mm x 37.2(D) mm, it's very similar in size to the X100/S cameras.

The magnesium die-cast top and front cover contribute to a robust feel. Although the rubber grip at the front looks like an afterthought, with its raised profile it considerably improves handling. Despite being a touch nose-heavy with the kit lens attached, the body feels comfortable in the hand over long periods, although it requires support with your left hand for added stability. type (PROVIA/STANDARD, Velvia/VIVID, ASTIA/SOFT, CLASSIC CHROME, PRO Neg Hi, PRO Neg. Std, MONOCHROME, MONOCHROME+Ye FILTER, MONOCHROME+R FILTER, MONOCHROME+G FILTER, SEPIA) The headline updates are the sensor and processor: the X-E2 sports the same X-Trans CMOS II sensor as we first saw in the X100S, which includes on-chip phase detection elements for autofocus, and in concert with the EXR Processor II promises much improved autofocus speed. It also gains Fujifilm's rather basic but easy-to-use Wi-Fi system for sharing images. There's also a much nicer rear screen: a 3", 1.04M dot 3:2 aspect ratio unit, and a whole host of further tweaks and improvements. The net result is a camera that retains all the best bits of its predecessor, but has also been improved in many respects. Fujifilm X-E2 key features Metering performance felt to be about the same as the X-E1, so there are no improvements there. Still, the X-E1 was pretty darn accurate and actually works surprisingly well in most situations, so perhaps there is not much to improve. The X-E2 does have a tendency to overexpose and underexpose in unusual lighting situations, but that happens even with advanced DSLRs, so it is not anything unusual. Gladly, the exposure compensation dial is right there on the top of the camera and now with three full stops of exposure, so altering the exposure is a very straightforward process. I am NOT talking about the issue of needing to put the AF Mode switch in the front of the camera to M for the AF-L button to be functional that everyone is aware of. Of course I was NOT using AF-C mode and complain about focus change like an idiot either. I have been trying to use the focus peaking feature after the recent update, now I get peaks in different colors, but I’m not sure if it’s just me or whether those peaks are quite often hard to spot. I think Sony A7 does a better job at focus peaking, I watched a video of someone using Leica lenses and the red highlights were making manual focus seem incredibly easy. I tried to achieve the same effect on my X-E2 but I find the peaks are just too thin. Can you please help me with this? Is there something I am not doing right? I've been using an Xe-2 for a few days, with a 23mm f1.4. Classic controls, logical operation, ingenious design, fine image quality, in a form that reminds me of my old film Leicas.

Measuring 129 (W) mm x 74.9(H) mm x 37.2(D) mm, it's very similar in size to the X100/S cameras.I have recently updated my X-E2 and the two XF lenses I have (18-55mm & 35mm). I have noticed focusing speed improvements on both the lenses, particulary on the 18-55mm but I guess primes can’t be expected to focus as fast. Toy camera / Miniature / Pop color / High-key / Low-key / Dynamic tone / Soft focus / Partial color (Red / Orange / Yellow / Green / Blue / Purple) That’s it. I would really appreciate if a test and review of the camera could answer these two questions that to the best of my knowledge are unanswered so far on the web.
