About this deal

Drenching a nest with MightyNem No Ants introduces a high number of nematodes to a nest forcing the ants to move. The kit comes with 2 sticky traps for monitoring and trapping to verify the presence of the pest, and 2 sponges with live nematodes for 2 successvie treatments of nematodes 2 weeks apart. All of these products are labeled as a soil drench treatment against fungus gnat larvae and all but Scanmask are labeled for thrips pupae. Adults measure 1/8 to 1/10 inches long (about the size of a common gnat) and they are distinguished from another greenhouse pest, the shore fly, by their long antennae.

Some species of nematodes are plant-eating, but the ones in your biological control product are insect-eating.The eggs incubate in the soil for a period of 4-6 days into larvae and this larval stage, which lasts for 12- 14 days is the most dangerous stage as this is when they feed on healthy plant roots. I was gifted a plant from Norway that ended up causing a fungus gnat infestation in my mini monstera's soil. Do not apply when the ambient air temperature exceeds 32°C, or the soil temperature exceeds 25°C or is below 12°C as the nematodes will become stressed or will be inactive. Nematodes therefore offer an easy solution to force ants to move their nests and get rid of the source. Steinernema feltiae nematodes are natural predators of ants and ants will move their nest once predators move in.

The eggs hatch within three to six days, depending on the temperature, and will then go through four larval instars. Depending on the level of fungus gnat infestation, we recommend between 20,000-35,000 nematodes/square foot. They then enter the pupal stage for around 6 days before emerging as adults to start the life cycle all over again. They’re no more harmful to you than the live pest already in your house (or garden), and should freak you out a great deal less than inviting a chemical into your house, which is a lot more toxic and longer-lasting.Some are natural parasites of specific pest insects like vine weevil, and these are bred for biological control.

The nematodes kill the fungus gnat larvae, which are hiding in the soil of your plants and hatching into more gnats. Beneficial Nematodes are supplied in a cellulose-based carrier and can be applied with any equipment traditionally used for spray applications. Since nematodes travel in a moist environment, the area to be treated should be watered before application and for several days after application. If you are looking for a green method for killing fungus gnats, consider using the beneficial nematodes in Scanmask! To treat an existing problem, we suggest purchasing enough for a subsequent application in 10-14 days for best results. This extended, slow-release control is a safe alternative to chemicals, harmless to wildlife, pets, and humans, will not washaway. Easily monitored with yellow sticky cards, fungus gnat adults have long legs, many-segmented antennae and a single pair of grayish transparent wings with a Y-shaped vein near the wing tip. Irrigate well immediately after treatment, and maintain moist soil conditions for the next 7 to 10 days.

Once the larvae develop into adults they become nuisance pests, forming small clouds of flies when disturbed. Fungus gnat flies are black or gray in color with clear wings, relatively small (3-4 mm) in size and commonly associated with compost and natural soils with high organic contents. In the 1960s, additional options were developed with the establishment of integrated pest management (IPM). WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLANT PARASITIC NEMATODES AND BENEFICIAL NEMATODES (ENTOMOPATHOGENIC NEMATODES , OR EN’s)?miles) helps break up the life cycle and eventually controls fungus gnat infestations by feeding on larvae and pupae.
