About this deal

Characters patronizingly summarize and re-summarize their lives like a 6th grade history teacher trying to prep students for a test.

Dimka Dvorkin, a young aide to Khrushchev, becomes an agent for good and for ill as the Soviet Union and the United States race to the brink of nuclear war, while his twin sister, Tania, carves out a role that will take her from Moscow to Cuba to Prague to Warsaw - and into history. As a series of historical novels, the whole Century Trilogy revolves around an episodic treatment of history, highlighting the most significant events of the 20th century by immersing characters in those events. These include the civil rights movement in the US, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassinations of President John F. Almost all of them are either cheated on, cheat themselves, or end up making some choices that require a bit of a leap on the readers part. He had a good job—not many people had a car of their own in East Germany—and men who worked in the government were usually hardline Communists, but Hans, surprisingly, shared Rebecca’s political skepticism.Ken Follett’s Edge of Eternity narrates the fictional stories of the descendants of Ma Peshkov, their families and their associates in the United States, the United Kingdom, divided Germany and the USSR through the decades of the all-too-real existence of the Berlin Wall and the thrust of the United States Civil Rights movement and into the generation after. On sent la rapidité à vouloir terminer une trilogie afin de boucler l’ensemble des histoires des différentes familles. With the hand of a master, he brings us into a world we thought we knew but now will never seem the same again. In this climactic and concluding saga, Follett brings us into a world we thought we knew, but now will never seem the same again. She was in a daze, but she knew this was the moment to find out the truth, while everyone was off balance, before they began to tell lies and concoct cover stories.

For instance (SPOILERS), a male character digs one of the female POV characters, but she falls for none other Jack Kennedy. Ken Follett was only twenty-seven when he wrote the award-winning EYE OF THE NEEDLE, which became an international bestseller. I find it disheartening that he refuses to acknowledge the non-alignment movement that was taking shape in India around the 60s. If you lean liberal and need to have your fantasy world upheld by books where liberals can do no wrong and conservatives can do nothing but, this is definitely the book for you. After the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, Rebecca grapples with the repressive nature of living in East Germany. It had been wholly the fault of the other driver, who had come out of a side street without stopping. The first time, she had used a leaflet handed out to American soldiers, telling them how to get on with Germans: the pupils had found it hilarious, and they had learned a lot too. No doubt the project was a way of passing the evenings he was obliged to spend with a woman he did not love. Edge of Eternity is the epic, final novel in Ken Follett’s captivating and hugely ambitious Century trilogy.

The pupils could not fail to know that something was wrong and, touchingly, they gave her an easy ride, even making helpful suggestions when she found herself lost for the right word. Follett tells his stories by placing readers into bedrooms, boardrooms, even at the Berlin Wall as it comes down. Despite this exhaustive treatment of history, most reviewers noted the quality of the reading experience. In the earlier books, Follett's strength was his human characters, and the terrible situations they're thrown in.I felt like this was added in to keep people's interest, because the rest of the story was just not up to what I would expect from Ken Follett. According to Publisher's Weekly, Edge of Eternity is "the mesmerizing final installment in an exhaustive but rewarding reading experience dense in thematic heft, yet flowing with spicy, expertly paced melodrama, character-rich exploits, familial histrionics, and international intrigue. The book ends with an epilogue set on November 4, 2008, the night of Barack Obama's election to President of the United States. In this final installment, we see the grandchildren of the epic WWI story course through the remnants of WWII, the Cold War, and the civil rights movement of the 1960's. Follett's undertaking of the political crises of the next 3 decades, steered ahead by the superpowers of the world, range from Communism, Social Democracy, freedom and civil rights, the threat of nuclear annihilation, espionage and government corruption, weaving them with creativity, astute interpretation and insight.

As usual, Ken Follet has written a truly excellent and very readable book which I throughly recommend. The novel tells the story of the third generation of families developed in the first two novels and located in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.Outside, two passersby stopped to watch, and a neighbor appeared on a doorstep, gazing in fascination. As some other reviewers have noted, the book does start off strong, but then sort of just starts jumping from one historic event to the next, all while glossing over or downplaying some important ones.
