While preparing for our trek on Mount Kilimanjaro last year it quickly became evident that I needed to step-up my game. this insulated version of the Static V offers extra warmth to extend its use into the cooler months. It was easy to deflate and roll up, and the included stuff sack is large enough that if you don’t roll it perfectly it will still fit. Deep Weld Patterning: Unlike traditional pads that flatten the bag’s fill, Deep Welds create expansion zones that allow your bag to fully loft beneath you for improved thermal comfort. If it was more durable and more comfortable to sleep on, this would have been a top contender indeed.

The provided stuff sack also has an integrated pocket that contains a patch kit, should you puncture the pad. The integrated side rails ensure you stay centered while sleeping keeping you snug and warm by inhibiting air movement. I used the Klymit Insulated Static V Luxe in Florida's Panhandle, the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, NW New Mexico, Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Appalachian Mtns of Virginia, Maryland, Pennyslvania, and West Virginia.Many backpackers, myself included, are used to using a self-inflating pad (or closed-cell foam pad) when they’re on a budget.

The Klymit Insulated Static V is a standard length (72 inches), but the width is 23 inches, which is 3 more inches than most “normal” sized backpacking pads.
