While I did enjoy some of the builds, and the random Chocolate Frog Cards, I don’t think it compares to previous Harry Potter Advent Calendars, which had a cohesive scene such as last year’s Yule Ball, or even micro models which were a lot of fun. It should include a perch for Hedwig (which we got yesterday – or the other owl I suggested for 1 December). Not the most exciting window, but it does give you the right elements to bring to life the scene from Philosopher’s Stone in Harry’s first year! Turning over the box, we can see more of the game board, but to be honest, I’ve no idea what it is like.
Looking at the plot progression, and the silhouette of Day 12’s build… it’s probably a no-brainer that we’ll get for Day 12! This is the 3rd year running for the Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and I hope I’m not the only one who feels like it’s been the weakest experience so far. The 24 gifts found within this special holiday calendar combine easily with all other LEGO Harry Potter sets for endless creative building, imaginative play and impressive displays. Generally, I tried to add more Christmas related links, accessories to the included figures, and slightly better coverage of persons/locations from Harry’s Journey to Hogwarts.Compared with the calendar, only with one set of wands – but she’s to come with both chocolate frog and wizard card as Ron. With 24 doors filled with magical surprises, these calendars are perfect for children who love the world of Harry Potter. Includes Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Dudley Dursley and Griphook minifigures, plus buildable models such as Gringotts’ gold vault.
LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar: Journey to Hogwarts – back to first year, but not really a focus on Christmas. The functionality with the envelopes coming out the fireplace is still there (when you lift the chimney). Looking back at the calendars, I probably prefer 2020 slightly over this one, as it helped complete the set of characters for the Yule ball, and it had some really nice micro-scale builds, I’ve subsequently added to a MOC (my own creation) of a “Goblet of Fire book”.
