Overall, Oh my Gods is a refreshingly fun read that centres a unique voice in a clever and imaginative way. Between keeping her family's true identities secret, trying to impress her new friends, and meeting an actually cute boy, Helen's stress levels are higher than Mount Olympus. The writing level and content would probably be appropriate for a 6-10 grade girl, depending on her skill level.

Why not one of those obsessive-compulsive, needy women who would actually move halfway across the world with a man they’ve known for six days and claim it’s love? Told through Helen’s narrative and letters to her mum, this story really sees a birds eye view of Helen’s hectic life living with the Gods. It gives a pure, unobscured window into her mind and by the end of the letter I felt like I already understood who Helen was and what was important to her.If you’re a fan of Greek mythology, or any kind of mythology for that matter, then this is a book for you.

And it also reflected what the book was about: Helen, and what a wonderful protagonist Helen Thomas is! Despite being descended from the Gods who are known for things like lightening bolts, or controlling the seas, or love, all the kids have exactly the same "powers", and that power is "zapping".Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). I am all about grrrls supporting grrrls, and I’m really glad I bought this book as it didn’t disappoint. I liked that Phoebe is an athlete and determined to make the team despite being out of her league as the only person without God qualities and talents.

Speaking of, it was so wonderfully refreshing how diverse this book was, and how diversity was an active discussion in the book. Phoebe's mother goes away to Greece for one week and comes back not only engaged but plans to get married that weekend and whisk Phoebe away to Athens with her.
