About this deal

If you watch any talent show on television today, you will see the shock on the faces of contestants who don’t make it past auditions and are rejected by the judges.

Whereas, with the contract killings, it never quite seems more than getting paid and dealing as best as possible with the bloody unforeseen. He is a hitman who gets around Dublin by bike and he makes to-do lists to plan his day-to-day life around. Then he finds himself with a baby and a dog in tow, a woman he's beginning to have more serious ideas about, all this with a serious talent for cooking a good meal. The ransom: ticking off a to-do list of murders that will make Patrick a target of the police, the mob, and his closest friends. I loved Patrick's character and being a Dublin girl myself it was great getting a tour of Dublin from the hitman on the bicycle.

The characters are 3 dimensional, the descriptions of everything from Patrick's daily routine to the reasons for the different hits were down to a fine detail. However, the poorest performers showed no recognition, despite clear and repeated feedback that they were doing badly. After one particular hit he gets home with a baby boy who really impacts his life and, obviously, his job. Patrick grew up hard and became the object of nightmares for some people, and the source of redemption for others. Finally, the flashes of life in Dublin, filtered to us through Patrick’s eyes and keen descriptions, show us the good and the bad, the beauty and the grime…but again, he does not editorialize or react emotionally to what’s ugly or rude on a street-corner, or lovely in a park.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It’s not my usual genre but I found it thoroughly entertaining and would recommend to anybody who enjoys violence and morally ambiguous characters, or a caricature style comedy.

Not to mention, for a professional hitman, our Lemon Man is incapable of completing his tasks and fucks-up majorly everytime. Chapters each working through his daily todo list made for short, sharp chapters with a really good pacing.

Take out the lightness and quirks and you're left with a pretty solid novel (although the baby would be hard to explain without that part). Not to mention finishing a hit job and bringing the victims baby home with you 😂 It was a real blend of all sorts and madness but it totally worked. Could it be that Patrick has just realized that what he really wants in life (in spite of being in his 40s) is more than what his job has ever offered him?
