About this deal

The alternating chapters showing Catherine's life leading up to and after a specific event, unravel the story at an excellent pace and felt myself holding my breath in several places as it drew me right in. They are told side by side and it took me a while to realise that they were both the same character.

He’s a damaged little man and an angry one, angry at the world and the one who broke his heart many years before (or so he says).Instead, this novel has a bitter aftertaste that leaves you wanting to down shots of Jose Cuervo to take away the burn. Young Cathy is full of spirit, laughter and love and the other is a mentaly destroyed OCD sufferer looking to recover from the trauma she has endured.

The change in Lee from sweet and caring to controlling and possessive is smooth and non-intrusive—silently creeping in and settling even before Before Cathy and I could realize and that makes it all the more horrifying. However, the pacing is simply too slow, and that’s troubling because this is supposed to be a thriller. I was guilty of having very fixed ideas about violence in the home and the sort of people who were victims of it, and this stereotype was challenged in every way by the reports I was analysing. Elizabeth Haynes is also the author of Revenge of the Tide, Human Remains, Never Aloneand The Murder of Harriet Monckton.

A fantastic thriller that you can’t feel indifferent about … Haynes has built some fantastic tension in this book.
