About this deal

I love the adventures on trains series and this book is as exciting and fact filled as all the others. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products.

The sixth and I think final installment of the Adventures on Trains series sees Hal and his uncle Nat on a train to the Arctic circle, the problem being there is also an assassin aboard! The adults are still doing their best to protect Hal, as is the duty of care any adult has to a minor, but he's never belittled or babied. In Book 6 of the marvellous Adventures on Trains series, Hal and his uncle Nate have another mystery to solve. Despite the illustrations being printed in black and white, you can easily imagine the colours painted in.When they are able to board the train is about to leave when a strange looking woman in a puffy ski jacket and bobble hat with carrier bags in her hands runs for the train.

These are fun, action-packed adventures in the style of a modern Agatha Christie for a 8-14 audience. The setting is of course a train, however the descriptions of the places they go, people they see and where they are are always written so brilliantly, you barely need the wonderful illustrations this book comes with, however this book is enriched and brought to life by the artwork throughout. Whilst reading, the book was so quick paced and raring to go, I felt I had to read quick to keep up. This time the mystery involves an assassin, a weapon of unimaginable power, and a threat to the life of Harrison and and his Uncle Nat. She explains she had a premonition she would never see him again and so got on the next plane and just caught the train, the lady in the puffy coat!I’ve absolutely loved this series from the 1st book, ‘The Highland Falcon Thief’ through to the 6th, and seemingly final, instalment. Alongside his writing, Sam worked as an award-winning digital content producer for the National Theatre, as a playwright and freelance journalist, and once ran a company designing murder mystery treasure hunts for adventurous Londoners. The Adventures on Trains series is published in the UK and US by Macmillan, and is licensed to more than fifteen countries around the world, including China, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Latin America, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain and Sweden.

Join Hal and Uncle Nat on more stops in this thrilling series with: Murder on the Safari Star, Danger at Dead Man’s Pass and Sabotage on the Solar Express. But first he has to take a plane to Sweden as uncle Nat is there to go to a special dinner with a friend, Morti, who is receiving a Nobel prize and she's asked Nat to go to the ceremony with her. G. Leonard, Sam Sedgman and Elisa Paganelli step up the urgency, wonder and engagement in the The Arctic Railway Assassin. Also, it was a bit violent, and there were some crude references not appropriate for a children's book. This time it is not one but 2 deadly assassins and they are caight in the crossfire on the train to the Arctic to see the northern lights. Yet news of Morti’s Nobel Prize has kicked off a chain of troubling incidents, including thefts, ransacking and shadowing. It is an easy, engaging read, but for me fell slightly flat by not really giving the reader a chance to solve the mystery first from clues in the story.
