About this deal

The movie has almost everything lacking in the vast majority of thrillers turned out these days (going back decades), and is far more artfully assembled -editing, direction, acting, pacing, modulated but effective suspense, and narrative leanness, not a trace of fat- than almost everything that's come out since the turn of the millennium.

He comes home to find his wife missing and his reactions are all self-oriented: “He wanted rather fervently to see his wife…. Tom knew his wife so well that he could never piece together why Karen was said to have rushed out like hell, left her purse, failed to lock the doors on her way out, and for having driven recklessly, running red lights in a deprived part of town.

I also find the writing guilty of repetition – how the author presented the characters’ thoughts over and over. The electrifying new thriller from Shari Lapena, author of the Sunday Times bestseller, The Couple Next Door. To complicate matters, a dead body is discovered near the car crash and it looks as though Karen could know something about the murder, and to top it all off, Karen begins to suspect someone has been in their house, moving little things around and going through her things.

Stranger in the House is a 1967 crime film directed and written by Pierre Rouve (from the novel by Georges Simenon), produced by Anatole de Grunwald and starring James Mason, Geraldine Chaplin and Bobby Darin. Sir Michael Caine knows a thing or two about gangs: whether that’s joining one as a kid, or playing them in movies for over 50 years. Seems like another one of those Lifetime movies here for old people that like a good PG rated mystery. Having really enjoyed Shari Lapena’s bestselling debut, The Couple Next Door, which was a worthy slice of fast-paced and atmospheric domestic noir with some very unexpected twists, I was keen to read A Stranger in the House.Thrillers on IMDb tend to be evaluated by standards appropriate either for Orson Welles or Hitchcock, or for contemporary high-budget endeavors.

The plot in A Stranger in the House is complex and interesting enough to hold my attention however there were only three characters which didn’t allow for much speculation in regards to the outcome. Eliminate negativity and change your life with best-selling author, happiness expert and life coach Domonique Bertolucci. There’s a knock on the door—the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted.Despite the fact that a few reviewers before me have remarked that this was predictable, I enjoyed the journey I was taken on with Lapena and her characters of A Stranger in the House. Brigid says, “She stopped being my friend the day she killed that man and lied to you and ruined your life. This deeply personal and supportive series offers listeners an honest and relatable insight into how some the UK's best-known celebrities have coped with mental health difficulties, ranging from OCD to insomnia, addiction to grief, and depression to anxiety. Rasbach’s subsequent background check on Karen reveals that she may have previously lived under a different identity.

It's very clever, well written, intriguing and suspenseful and has all the trademarks of a massive bestseller - I wish Shari Lapena every success with "A Stranger In The House" this year! THEN, a dead body and Karen’s dishwashing gloves (pink, natch) are discovered near the accident site. I had deliberately avoided reading a plot description of this book, because I wanted to enter my reading experience free from expectations and preconceived notions. Adding in a complication of amnesia, following Karen’s head injury from her accident, adds a further shroud of mystery to this domestic tale.Random House presents the unabridged downloadable audio edition of A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena, read by Tavia Gilbert. The last sentence was, no doubt, intended to leave the reader feeling a slight shiver down the spine, but honestly, I thought it was wickedly funny. Do you feel weighed down by stress and pressure, held back by judgement and lack of opportunity, and critcised by everyone – including yourself? Several novels were written having domestic violence as the core motivation and it will come as no surprise that usually in the end, the wife really did kill the husband out of fear or revenge.
