About this deal

I loved the few instances where we had them together and it would have been nice if there were more (when they were talking about boys? the phenomenal writing, character narrative, and entire atmosphere of this book is easily worth 4+ stars. When we left Elias at the end of ‘A Reaper at the Gates’ he was Elias no more, but The Soul Catcher and he was going to forget everyone from his life. That said, while I did enjoy this book, for the most part, I have to say the final battle was a bit meh.

There is so much that went into making them who they were, and to be honest, I understood why they did what they did and I couldn’t just completely hate them. And when Darin decided to find Laia, I think we all knew that wouldn’t end well for him, but that didn’t make it hurt any less to see Laia lose that last member of her family. In the process, she awakens an ancient power that could lead her to victory - or to an unimaginable doom. I've learned of hope, I've learned not to turn away from it, not to scoff at it and dismiss it with a wave of the hand.If I had to pick a favourite book in the series it would probably be A Reaper at the Gates just because that book really was excellent in terms of plot and pacing and SKY is just too painful. whereas I read the rest of the series in a day or two) It made me very sad that his character got ruined. In case you haven't read the series, he makes a deal with the jinn to become the Soul Catcher and transport souls to the next world by talking them through their troubles. It kind of touched on how the world doesn’t protect or shield children and how it lead to her becoming who she was.

You feel for the characters more each time as with every new situation, the stakes are continually raised. So… Elias Veturius, I have to say, I don’t think I’ve loved a character like him since Will Herondale so that is truly saying something here. You couldn’t help hating Keris and despise her with all you being and then all of a sudden a little bit of pity grows when we are shown her vulnerable moments. She was just laughing and being herself a few moments before that and all her jokes and sisterly advice came back as a flood… I was like “but, she was just laughing with Helene… how can this be happening?
