About this deal

They’ve enjoyed many creative highs in the years since, but the duo has never quite replicated their best-selling album’s success – possibly because they’ve gone back to keeping listeners guessing instead of answering all of their questions as only Sonic Temple apparently could. What is perhaps the true highlight of the band in general though, is the nature of the lyrics themselves. This is probably The Cult's greatest, tied with Electric and Love, but I consider it more representative mostly because it fuses their two sounds the best. In a recent interview about the album, Ian Astbury explained how the band brought together hard rock and indie rock to create the unique, game-changing sounds on Sonic Temple.

But what you're starting to notice is that the issue is moving more and more into the focus of the heavy listenership and is slowly getting the attention and appreciation it deserves. It will be released as a deluxe box set and a 5-CD set, and we are also reissuing Sonic Temple on Double LP, which has been out of print for over 20 years. To celebrate the anniversary, Beggars Arkive will release THE CULT: SONIC TEMPLE 30 on September 13th. Sun King as mentioned above is some of the best fusion songs, Edie is their signature ballad and there is place for diversity with the rocking New York City, the anthemic Wake Up Time for Freedom, the groove of Sweet Soul Sister, or the slow post-punk-ish construction of American Horse. Secondly, this is a gatefold with no lyrics or inserts, yet Ceremony is not a gatefold and comes with lyric inserts…why? The DIGITAL version will replicate the CD-set but excludes the original album for a total of 43 tracks.

The Cult - Sonic Temple Lyrics and Tracklist | Genius

Originally released in 1989, Sonic Temple proved to be a pivotal moment for both band and the wider rock scene. At times, the guitars cut out on Automatic Blues and Soldier Blue (maybe it's just one of them, but they put two songs with "Blue" in the title back to back so I should be expected to conflate the two), which gives the listener just a bit needed of breathing room. The album cover features guitarist Billy Duffy with his Gibson Les Paul, partially obscuring a picture of vocalist Ian Astbury. But as their fourth album arrived on April 10, 1989, the brass ring of global stardom seemed at last within their reach.Sonic Temple is a straight forward heavy rock album influenced by the American music of the late seventies and early eighties. The album received mixed reviews, with some interpreting the change in sound positively and some negatively. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term. A few tracks are a little bland while others play to their strength with power rock and cool gothness. With a strong sense of lyrical content, an equally as powerful feeling of co-operation and the fact that the band had already seemed to release their most successful album in 'Love', 'Sonic Temple' was a huge leap in the band's performance and progression.

Even the cover of the album itself, which showcases a young Billy Duffy in one of his famous Rock stances alongside an enlarged background image of Singer Ian Astbury, hints at the band's ever lasting victory and success. LP3 contains Live At Wembley recorded by the BBC, and the included cassette contains limited-release demos. Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] Now That We Don’t Talk (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] “Slut! The genre mostly died in the 90s, save a few exceptions, leaving a huge gap between more mainstream rock and the ever evolving metal genres. The box set contains three pieces of blue vinyl and a cassette with a blue shell in an O-card, plus tour memorabilia and ephemera (replica of original laminate, backstage pass with a lanyard, original press releases, glossy photographic prints, label copy and more). When an album as successful as 'Love' is followed up swiftly by an album as excellent as 'Electric', it's probably hard for the band that released those two albums to create anything that builds up on that performance, or indeed exceeds the mark that was originally set.

How the Cult Broke Through With ‘Sonic Temple’

Continuing in the hard rock direction introduced on their previous album, Sonic Temple features some of the band’s most popular songs. It’s numbered and limited to 3500 pieces worldwide and contains 40 tracks, four of which are previously unreleased. Includes memorabilia and ephemera (replica of original laminate, backstage pass, original press releases, label copy and four previously unreleased tracks. Sonic Temple marked the first time the band worked with Bob Rock, who would later produce The Cult, Beyond Good and Evil, Choice of Weapon and Hidden City. It's the poetic nature of 'Soul Asylum', the mischievous descriptions of the 'Fire Woman' or the sense of realistic American lifestyles in 'New York City' that really show Ian Astbury and Co.
